In the 1940s, the Alberta government asked the Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs) to bring power to rural Alberta. The IOUs declined, citing cost as a factor. With this reality, Alberta farmers decided to step up and formed co-operatives, also known as Rural Electrification Associations (REAs), to bring electricity to rural Alberta. Today EQUS (REA) is Alberta�s electricity expert and Canada�s largest member-owned utility. We don�t work for investors; we work for our members. We don�t generate profits for international stockholders; we produce savings for our members in rural Alberta. We can serve businesses, homes, farms, subdivisions, oil and gas developments and more. EQUS is a 100% Alberta owned and rural-based electrical distribution co-operative. We operate offices in Innisfail, Claresholm, Medicine Hat and Onoway, with our Main Office located in Innisfail. We are proud to offer our quality power distribution to Rural Parkland County.
